Indoor air quality for offices, restaurants, schools and homes

Stuffy rooms, smoke days, odors and humidity problems all come back to the HVAC system. We fix ventilation, filtration and humidity so the air inside is better than the air outside.

Why it matters

According to the U.S. EPA, people spend about 90% of their time indoors, where some pollutants can be two to five times higher than outdoors. In Western Washington we also get wildfire smoke most summers, and buildings that can’t filter it end up pulling it inside.

The short version

What is indoor air quality?

Indoor air quality is about what’s in the air people breathe inside: dust, smoke, germs, odors, moisture and CO2. Most of it is controlled by the HVAC system: filtration, fresh air, humidity and air cleaning.

Why it matters

  • Wildfire smoke and pollen get pulled straight into buildings without good filtration
  • Stale air and high CO2 hurt focus and comfort
  • Too much humidity grows mold; too little dries people out
  • Some spaces need controlled pressure to keep contaminants in or out

Who it’s for

  • Offices, schools and daycares
  • Medical, dental and wellness spaces
  • Gyms, pools and spas
  • Labs, clean rooms and anyone who needs controlled air

What we can do for you

  • REME HALO in-duct air purifiers
  • HEPA filtration and MERV-13 filter upgrades
  • UV-C lights for coils and air
  • ERVs, HRVs and dedicated outdoor air systems (DOAS)
  • Dehumidification, including pool rooms
  • Positive and negative pressure rooms and clean rooms
  • CO2-based ventilation control and air balance coordination

Work we’ve done

  • Installing ERVs as part of a church’s VRV conversion in Puyallup
  • Got a failed ERV and mini-splits running again
  • Fixed a dehumidifier that was reading mixed air by moving its sensor
  • Filter upgrades and VAV box maintenance in an office building
  • Replacing a pool room dehumidifier for an apartment community

Real Omni jobs. We don’t name customers.

What we look at

Ventilation

Make sure outside air is actually coming in at the right rate: dampers, economizers, ERVs and DOAS units working the way they were designed.

Filtration

Upgrade to higher-efficiency filters where the equipment can handle it. ASHRAE has recommended MERV 13 or better for many buildings when the system allows.

Wildfire smoke

Higher-efficiency filters, sealed filter racks and a plan for smoke days, including when to cut back outside air.

Humidity and moisture

Condensation, musty smells and mold start with humidity and drainage problems. Pool rooms and kitchens need extra attention.

Kitchen exhaust and make-up air

Hoods that don’t capture and make-up air that doesn’t keep up push smoke and odors into the dining room.

Combustion safety

Cracked heat exchangers and bad venting can put carbon monoxide in the building. We test it.

Ventilation and exhaust work

How it works

1

Call or send a request

Tell us the equipment, what it’s doing, and how urgent it is.

2

We come look

A field-experienced tech or estimator sees it in person. Most diagnostics take 30 minutes or less.

3

Straight price first

You get what’s wrong, what it takes, and what it costs before we start.

4

Done right, written up

We finish clean, test it, and leave a written record of what we did.

Common questions

What MERV filter should a commercial building use?

ASHRAE has recommended MERV 13 or better where the equipment can handle it. Not every unit can, because higher-efficiency filters add resistance. We’ll check what your system supports.

How do I protect my building from wildfire smoke?

Upgrade filtration, make sure filters seal in their racks, and have a plan to cut outside air during heavy smoke while still meeting minimum ventilation. We can set that up.

Why does my restaurant dining room smell like the kitchen?

Usually the hood isn’t capturing or the make-up air isn’t balanced with the exhaust. We service and balance both.
